I rather like the fact that, by unspoken agreement or sentiment, everyone leaves their holiday lights on through the night if it snows. Ir reminds me of beacons in the window; the struggle and the light home.

OF course, the candles are LED and i have to keep replacing the batteries in the wreath. But, still.

Holiday Wish meme

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I'm stealin' this from [info]missjanette, but you probably stole it from someone else.

Step One

Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it. Once a wish has been granted, it will be crossed off my list.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1: A job where lack of social acumen is not punished.

I do very well with limited sets of people, but office politics has too many variables; i've learned the limits of my autism and the speed at which they can be pushed. I really just want to be able to put on my headphones and work like a demon.

2: Someone to hold my hand through the school application process. I admit that i need help.

3: A kind soul to shoop a Santa hat onto this batman icon.

4: Ideas for new stuff for the soap shop; i've just been randomly making new things lately and not listing them because they're somehow out of true. Ginger fig and honey beeswax are nice, but they ain't the trick.

5: Small donations to favorite podcasts: Best of the Left, Metamor City, Literary Abominations, , etc, etc. I have a huge list of these. They are just people who are trying to make a living doing what they love, or doing it just for the love, and are often involved in charitable works; i give what i can, and i'd like to see them succeed.

6: Donations to [info]missjanette's pre-K class, speaking of donations. Monetary, books, supplies - if you don't know her personally, i am happy to broker. The little goobers have needs.

7: A $20 gift certificate to Micro-Mark, because i want to buy someone a present and they really need this damn thing. :3

8: A Kuroshitsuji, Tales of the Abyss, Kingdom Hearts or FF7 trinket; anything from an art book or figure to a phone charm or burnt cds. I really have very little fan juju, all things considered.

9: Art supplies? Gesso, mold-making supplies, tooling leather, miniature trims, reptile hides, scrap metal, extra exacto blades (!!), LaDoll clay, miniature jewelery components, scrap fabric, interesting paper, that weird shit in the closet that you didn't know what to do with.

10: Yep, i'm all out. I don't know - a LTF Rachel? A Dreaming Doll NS boy body? An Iple EID WS girl body? OOH, OOH, I KNOW, GREY GALENA. That would be hysterical.

For once, I am actually pleased with the progress of a project.

I've been making horns for Jin, since I could never find the exact shape I wanted: mostly straight, with a strong backwards lean and a subtle twisted curve at the tip. They're certainly not perfect by any means - next time, I'll probably make them half again as long - but considering that I've been trying, failing, and grumbling with clay for months now, it's nice to see a little progress.

I'm in the middle of trying two methods: building up from a core, as traditional, and carving solid, roughly-shaped blanks. I'm having a lot more initial success with the carving, and finding out that making mirror-image twists is not at all simple, but still not as difficult as I was dreading. I think there will be more ultimate success with the built-up ones, but I wouldn't have understood how to make them without trying these first.l

It has occurred to me lately that I should probably start keeping, or at least photographing failed objects, even if I never want to look at them again. Progress is practice, but it is also a record.

Favorite words of the moment: fulsome and unctuous.  If I ever set up properly for herps again, those will definitely be the names of a pair of snakes.

I can't find my glasses, no one is home to help me find them, and i don't have a spare pair because my glasses cost a bomb and change quite a bit from prescription to prescription.

HLAP. Actually, in all these years of wearing them, i've never lost them for more than ten minutes before. heh. I'd put them behind my ipod and speaker when i went to sleep; speakers in the same place when i woke up, but glasses gone. I've stripped the bed, moved the furniture, and am now at something of a loss.

In other news, i don't make dyslexic typing mistakes when i can't see the keyboard. How about that.
